National Hospital of Sri Lanka , Colombo




The National Hospital, Sri Lanka's momentous trace certainly puts Sri Lanka on the map of success in medical accomplishment and advancement. It was established in 1861 ,with a bed strength of only 100, and now it is a premier teaching hospital, with tertiary care facilities in the country. This has expanded into a hospital with 75 wards, of a bed strength over 3000, 35 operation  theaters, 12 intensive care units, providing a wide spectrum of services to the country. The hospital is funded by the Ministry of Health. All services are rendered free of charge. The NHSL, located on a 32-acre block of land, in close proximity to the Medical Faculty,Colombo.

Along with the DeSoysa Maternity Hospital, Castle Street Hospital for Women, Lady Ridgeway Hospital for Children, Institute of Cardiology and the Eye Hospital, the NHSL function as the main teaching facility for the Medical Faculty. The Departments of Medicine and Surgery have their clinical teaching units on the hospital premises.

Monday to Friday - 7.00am to 6.00pm
Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays - 8.00am to 12.00 pm
